Typical scenario

A barcode stops scanning beneath wrapping film

If a box code scans before wrapping but not afterwards, preserve both conditions. A checkout scanner’s failure does not establish number alteration or product origin. Folds, seam location, reflections and clear space around the printed symbol matter on the actual pack.

What needs to be clarified

Determine how outer film and symbol placement affect reading, checking dimensions and quiet zones while separating print quality from scanning-equipment conditions.

Materials to prepare

  • Boxes before and after wrapping with film seams preserved
  • Original artwork with barcode type and dimensions
  • Failed-scan records identifying scanner model and settings

What to compare

Photograph the intact pack under fixed lighting first. Check symbol geometry, contrast and quiet zones, recording folds and overlaps. Compare repeated readings on the same equipment and perform verification with a suitable instrument if needed. Remove film only after initial recording, documenting changes in reflections and symbol access.

Possible outcome of the analysis

A comparative scanning protocol may explain packaging or printing effects, listing confirmed parameters and limits on applying the findings to the remaining boxes.

Limits of the conclusions

Phone readability is not symbol-quality verification. Readability examination does not authenticate goods; film removed beforehand cannot recreate original fold and seam positions.

Examination of markings: metals, polymers, other materials, numbers, stamped marks and plates
