Markings on polymers

Examination of inscriptions, cast markings, embossing, laser and printed markings on plastics, rubber and polymer products.

On plastics and rubber, markings may be moulded, printed, applied by laser or embossed. The material's properties and changes to the surface caused by use are taken into account during examination.

Subject of examination

  • Cast and embossed markings
  • Printed and laser markings
  • Casings, parts and traces of surface alteration

Sample questions for the expert

  • By what method was the marking made, if the features allow this to be determined?
  • Are there signs of alteration or damage to the marking?
  • How does the marking relate to the features of the product's surface?
  • Are the submitted markings comparable with reliable samples?

The final questions are formulated according to the objects and circumstances of the particular task.

What to prepare

  • An overall view and detailed photographs without processing
  • Information about the polymer and conditions of use
  • Documents, samples and repair history
  • The questions posed and the available object

How the examination is conducted

Surface structure, relief, location and application features are examined. Deformation, ageing, solvents and other possible causes of changes are taken into account.

Scope and limitations

Damage or illegibility does not prove deliberate alteration. Methods suitable for metal cannot automatically be applied to polymers.

What the deliverable records

The deliverable contains features of application and alteration, and possible limitations on restoration or comparison.

Cost and terms

from RUB 50,000. The exact cost depends on the type of material, number of objects, questions and need for inspection, microscopy or laboratory work.

Consultation

Send photographs of the marking and a description of the product

Describe the object, material, marking location and task, and attach photographs, documents, questions from the court, the previous expert's report or information about the product's origin.

  • markings on metals;

  • serial numbers, stamped marks and plates;
  • signs of alteration, removal or damage to a marking.

For an assessment, please attach close-up photographs of the marking, an overall view of the product, documents, questions from the court or an expert report for review.
